CPC speaker series: Marvin Haiman
It was with great pleasure that we launched the CPC Speaker Series on October 19, 2023. We felt it was fitting to host a speaker series focused on leadership in policing, as well as other topics of importance to the CPC community.
In this first event of the series, we were pleased to partner with the University of Ottawa's Professional Development Institute Public Safety initiative.
We were honoured to host our first event with a presentation by Mr. Marvin "Ben" Haiman. Mr. Marvin Haiman serves as the Chief of Staff for the Metropolitan Police Department. In this capacity, Mr. Haiman oversees daily operations of the Executive Office of the Chief of Police and is responsible for broad agency management and implementing strategic agency objectives.
Specifically, Mr. Haiman presented a session on the experience of the Metropolitan Police Department of Washington DC on January 6, 2021. The Metropolitan Police Department is the primary law enforcement agency for the Nation's Capital and has approximately 4,000 members. This session discussed the landscape of the 1st amendment demonstrations leading up to January 6, 2021 the Metropolitan Police Department's deployment that day to support the United States Capitol Police, and lessons learned by the agency. His presentation focused on the individuals involved and their experiences, lessons learned, and what changes that have been implemented.
The CPC Speaker Series will be hosted all through 2024. Information about the series will be posted on the CPC website in the near future.
