Description
This course is designed to equip investigators with advanced investigative techniques, legal principles, and best practices critical to addressing and solving intricate cases of sexual violence including those complicated by drugs and alcohol, historical sexual offences, stranger perpetrators, and intimate partner violence. Participants will delve into topics such as trauma-informed interviewing, behavioral sciences, investigative techniques, and the nuances of consent in legal contexts. Through a blend of lectures, case studies, and practical exercises, participants will enhance their skills in investigating sexual offence cases while ensuring a victim-centered approach.

Eligibility and mandatory requirements
This course is offered to experienced law enforcement investigators who specialize in the investigation of complex sexual offences, investigators assigned to a specialized unit mandated to investigate sexual offences, and/or supervisors who oversee teams involved in the investigation of sexual offences
This course is also offered to prosecutors who are assigned to sex crime cases
Acceptance or refusal in the course is at the discretion of the Canadian Police College
Assessment
Success of this course is based on participation and completion of all required assignments
Various evaluation methods are used, including a final written exam
Re-testing or re-evaluation is conducted at the discretion of the course instructor
