Description
Leaders are called upon to make critical decisions in a complex environment while facing the constraints of limited resources. This course will introduce a model for strategic thinking and decision-making that guides leaders through four critical stages of strategic thinking.
Participants will learn about the four elements of strategic thinking and then work in small groups to apply the model as they work to solve a real-world strategic challenge. Participants will use proven strategic thinking tools and templates which they will then be able to use as they face future challenges.

Learning outcomes
- Understanding the four elements of strategic thinking
- Knowledge of the full potential of each element and understanding how each can play an instrumental role in the success or failure of a strategy
- Knowledge of effective ways to conduct research and to make strategic decisions about all four elements
- Ability to think strategically and to make optimal solutions using a proven method
- Ability to apply strategic thinking
Eligibility and mandatory requirements
- This course is offered to leaders, both sworn and civilian, of law enforcement agencies, (and their civilian equivalence and municipal equivalence)
- Acceptance or refusal in the course is at the discretion of the Canadian Police College
Assessment
- Assessment is based on evaluation of participation in course activities
